Germany’s Schalke 04 assistant coach, Sven Hubscher, was left bloodied on Saturday when a missile thrown from the crowd hit him in the head during Saturday’s Bundesliga match between his side and Koln at the Veltins Arena.
The unidentified object hit him in the head and the wound required stitches. The attack came in stoppage time at the end of his club’s 2-1 defeat at home.
After the game, Schalke sporting director, Horst Heldt told reporters in Gelsenkirchen that the club had launched an investigation into the attack.
“We hope that we can identify the perpetrator,” he said. “This is unacceptable.”
Saturday’s defeat left the Roberto Di Matteo’s tutored Schalke on sixth in the Bundesliga table.
