A middle-aged man, Okwara Emmanuel, has been jailed for two years for manufacturing fake insecticides. He was sentenced by a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Evoh Chukwu.

He was accused of manufacturing unregistered Raid, Baygon, Mortein insecticides and Dettol antiseptic. He pleaded guilty to the six-count charge filed against him by the federal government.

He was arrested after a petition was written against him to the National Agency For Food, Drug and Administration Control (NAFDAC), who raided his shop at Kuje on November 7, 2014.

He was arrested with a gas cylinder and empty containers of various types of insecticides.

A witness in the case, Olaolu Shuaibu, a police officer attached to NAFDAC enforcement unit said a director in charge of enforcement received a petition against Okwara.

Leadership quotes him as saying that

after the petition was received, a directive came from the office of the director to storm Kuje, where Okwara was producing the unwholesome products.
