He will now miss Thursday’s Europa League tie against Besiktas of Turkey.
The striker has been facing accusations from his mother and siblings that he threw his mother out of his house and abandoned the family to suffer. He too, was reported to have asked his family to stop "doing juju" on him.
In a brief statement on their website, the club said:
“We can confirm that Emmanuel Adebayor has been given permission to return home for personal reasons. This is a private matter and so we will not be providing any further comment.”
Adebayor has not played for Tottenham since November 9, as he had been battling back and hamstring injuries as well as a virus.
He has also struggled for form since Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at White Hart Lane, scoring just twice in 12 appearances.
