Twenty-seven year old Lucy Gbagyo’s wedding to her fiancé, Philip Nguhwa, had been fixed for Febraury 27, 2015. Enough reason to keep her excited, right? Well, many may think she cared less about preserving her life till that moment while others will say it is fate.

She died after jumping from a speeding commercial bus in the Shogunle area of Lagos State.

PUNCH reports that the Lucy was on her way to see her fiance, Philip, on Sunday evening for preparations for their wedding when the incident happened.

According to the newspaper, Lucy had boarded a bus from the Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway en route Ilori Street in the Shogunle area where her heartthrob of four years lives.

Witnesses said the bus driver ignored her shouts that she had gotten to her destination and sped past her bus stop. As her cries fell on deaf ears, she reportedly forced the door open and jumped out of the bus.

According to her fiancé, the driver stopped the bus after the incident while other passengers and bystanders rushed to help her.

Punch quotes him as saying:

“One of them picked her phone and checked the last dialed number. He saw my number and called me. He said I should rush down to the bus stop.
“When I got there, I called her name and she opened her eyes faintly and shut them again. We all carried her into the bus and rushed her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
“We had not gone too far when she died in the vehicle. When we got to the hospital, she was confirmed dead on arrival.”
Reports have it that the bus driver and the conductor have been arrested by the police even though the family has said they are not interested in pursuing the case.

Lucy is from Benue State and her family wants her buried in her home town. It was learnt that her died in January after a road accident.

It is still not clear if Lucy simply overreacted or was being kidnapped. There seems to be more to it than meets the eye.
