Nigerian soldier cured of Ebola in Netherlands
A Nigerian United Nations peacekeeper who was flown to the Netherlands for treatment after getting infected with Ebola virus while working in Liberia, has been cured.
Dutch public health institute RIVM said in a statement on Friday that “The Nigerian patient who was admitted on December 6 has been cured of Ebola”.
The soldier was flown to the Netherlands at the request of the W.H.O in a specially equipped aircraft and treated at the university hospital in central city Utrecht.
Accordng to Dutch authorities, he was the first Ebola patient to be treated in the country and would reman at a military hospital until he was fit to return home.
Ebola has killed more than 6,900 people worldwide with Liberia responsible for 3,290 of the deaths.
