Umaru Fintiri, acting governor of Adamawa state has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary. The announcement was made in the early hours of Sunday.
Fintiri won by 60 per cent of the vote cast by over 878 delegates at the poll conducted by a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
Former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Modibbo finished second while former military administrator of Lagos state, Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa came third.
Fintiri was favourite to win the primaries following the withdrawal of Nuhu Ribadu and others from the primaries.
It was also learnt that a former Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, stepped down for Fintiri, before the primaries commenced.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the State governorship election fixed for October 11 is expected to emerge on Sunday.
The APC primary is slated for today and seven aspirants are in contention for the party’s ticket They are, Senator Umaru Mohammed Bindow, Senator Ahmed Barata, Mr. Boss Mustafa, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, Yakubu Sala, Alhaji Dahiru Bobboi and Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa.
APC's chances of winning the October 11 election has however become slimmer following the departure of Nuhu Ribadu.
The winner of that election would complete the tenure of impeached former Governor, Murtala Nyako who was a member of the APC before his ouster. He had defected from the PDP to the APC earlier in the year.
