The Adamawa State University in Mubi has been closed down indefinitely for fear of possible attack from Boko Haram insurgents. The institution’s Acting Registrar, Malam Hassan Tanko, announced the closure in Yola on Sunday evening.
In a statement issued by Malam Tanko, students were directed to go home as the university had been closed down indefinitely for security reasons.
Mubi, is 25 km from Gulak town which was on Saturday overrun by the Islamic insurgents who declared it an Islamic Caliphate. Mubi had provided refuge for residents and soldiers who escaped from Gulak and so the fear is believed to be that it might just be the next target for the rampaging insurgents.
The News however reports that residents of Mubi jam-packed the motor parks to escape from the town and students therefore found it difficult to leave the town.
One of the students who identified himself as Ali told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that many commuters were now stranded in the border town due to lack of vehicles.
“The Motor park is now jam-packed with stranded passengers with no vehicle to move them out,” he said.
