Ebola: Policemen flee on sighting strange monkey in police station

A woman, identified as Madam Ebitare was yesterday arrested by Police in Bayelsa state over alleged continued sales of live monkeys as well as dried bush meat at the Swali market in Yenegoa, LEADERSHIP reports.

Madam Ebitare and her monkey however threw the police headquarters at Hospital road, into confusion as officers on duty took to their heels on sighting the monkey. The fear of contacting Ebola virus was the beginning of their wisdom.

Monkeys are certified reservoirs of the dreaded Ebola virus.

The woman and her monkey were however taken out of the station when top officers’ attention was drawn to the junior officers’ fears.

A Police officer, who pleaded anonymity, told the paper that though the divisional head of the station was not aware of her arrest,” the incident shocked many. But we are aware and have alerted the ministry of health on the continued disregard of the sale of bush meat in the area.”
