A three-year-old girl has been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed Synagogue Church building in Ikotun, Lagos State but her parents have not been found.
The girl, who is currently receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, has been declared fit to be discharged but there is no one to claim her.
The Consultant and Head, Surgical Emergency Department of the hospital, Dr. Ibrahim Mustapha, said that they were yet to get basic information from the little girl, which would have helped social welfare workers at the hospital to trace her parents’ whereabouts.
Another victim, a male, who sustained some bruises on the head and arm, was also fit to be discharged soon.
Dr. Mustapha said: “Both sustained minor injuries, including bruises, but we have been able to treat and dress their wounds. One of the victims, a child will be discharged today, but we cannot find her parents.
“We are hoping that any parent or relative looking for their child will come to LASUTH. For now, she is stable and she is good to go home, but we can’t discharge her till we have a guardian or her parents and they should come with proof.”
In another development, a 45 year old woman walked out of the rubble unaided around 2 a.m. on Tuesday as rescue efforts continued at the rubble site. The woman came out without any help even after being trapped for three days.
Ibrahim Farinloye, South-West Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said she was however traumatized and had little injuries on her ankle and wrist.
Eight more bodies were recovered over night, bringing the death toll yet to 57 dead and 131 rescued.
Three police sniffer dogs were on Monday deployed to the scene to assist in the search and rescue of trapped bodies.
