The return of the Champions League has set newspaper front pages “alight” in across Europe. In Spain, it is about the two greatest players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and as well as their respective rival clubs, Real Madrid and Bacelona.
Both players are in search of the all-time Champions League scoring record of the Real Madrid legend, Raul Gonzalez.
Lionel Messi is today, emblazoned across the front page of Mundo Deportivo his club faces APOEL Nicosia.
Messi has scored 67 goals, Ronaldo has 68 and Raul’s record stands at 71.
In AS magazine, however, the focus is on Real Madrid as they aim to defend their Champions League crown.
According to the newspaper they face a 'triple test' of aiming to become the first side to retain the trophy in the Champions League era, to correct their poor start to the season with a victory over Basle and to convert the booing of Iker Casillas into an ovation.
