Music icon, Celine Dion’s whereabouts have been a matter of concern to many of her fans whom she serenaded with her great hit love songs. These fans may have to wait a little bit longer because the superstar has put her career on hold to care for her 72-year old husband, Rene Angelil.
Angelil had surgery in December last year to remove a cancerous tumor. In June, he stepped down from his role as her manager to deal with his health problems and there are reports that he also had a second surgery done.
According to sources, Celine Dion has committed herself to Angelil’s bedside. He helped launch her career more than 20 years ago and supported her all though it. They’ve built a family together, having three young kids.
Last month, the 46 year old singer canceled her Las Vegas shows and upcoming Asian tour because of her husband’s condition.
Explaining the sad situation on ABC News last month, she said: “I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”
Reports also have it that herself has had health issues, suffering from a throat inflammation that had kept her out of performance for a while.
Dion and Angelil first met in 1980 when she was 12 and he was 38. Her mother had sent him a demo tape of a song they had written. They began a relationship in 1987, got engaged in 1991 and married on December 17, 1994, at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They renewed their marriage vows on January 5, 2000.
So, who doesn’t want Celine Dion back on the airwaves? Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. We wish them quick recovery and a quick return to active show business which they’ve done together for years.
