The “Nokia” brand on phones is about to be scrapped as Microsoft, new owners since April, are due to change the name from "Nokia" to “Microsoft Lumia”.

Nokia phone business has been renamed "Microsoft mobile" and the Lumia 830 may be the last phone to carry the Nokia name.

Microsoft told tech magazine, The Verge, that the process is part of a marketing overhaul. Microsoft also renamed Nokia apps to just Lumia recently.

It also marks the end of the Nokia era in phones production in which it has been in as a pioneer since 1980

The brand will however not disappear entirely as Nokia Networking, a part of he company not acquired by Microsoft in the $7.2 billion take-over, will still exist as a separate company involved in mapping and networking infrastructure.

Nokia, a company that started in Finland, took its name from the town in which it started. It started in a town called Nokia. It first started as a paper mill and later dabbled into making of chemicals, tires, rubber boots, plastics and consumer electronics.
