Boko Haram has reportedly abducted sixty at Waga Mangoro and Garta villages, both in Adamawa State. The sect members were said to have invaded the towns in their scores, riding on motorcycles and driving vans.
The insurgents, according to fleeing residents who said they sneaked out on Tuesday, abducted 40 of the women from Waga Mangoro and the remaining 20 from Garta.
One of those fleeing the area, told the press that the insurgents cordoned off the entire town of Garta and went house to house to fish out young women who they threw into their vans and drove away with.
According to him, the insurgents slaughtered men and burnt houses just as they invaded Wagga Mangoro and took 40 women. He added that the towns had already been in the control of the insurgents for over two months.
Another fleeing resident told LEADERSHIP that a relative of his, who is currently trapped in the bush, said that he heard the insurgents disowning the ceasefire agreement the sect reportedly reached with the federal government. He added that the insurgents were insistent on instituting Sharia law in the country.
A community leader from Michika, a neighbouring town to the two attacked towns, Emmanuel Kwache, confirmed the incident and said that he was told that the attack was still on.
But Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, James Watharda, according to PUNCH, said: “I had all along been in Yola since the insurgents took over the area and as such I can speak little of happening in the area.”
This attack comes even as the federal government stated last week that it had reached a ceasefire agreement with the sect and that the release of the over 200 Chibok girls were being negotiated.
