Father of the 23-year-old Nigerian man who jumped the White House fence on Wednesday night has said that his son was suffering from mental problems. He told the media that his son is paranoid and hears imaginary voices.
A secret service spokesman said the man, Dominic Adesanya from Bel Air, Maryland, jumped the fence but had barely made it to the lawn before he was apprehended as he tried to fight off the security dogs.
Reports said that he kicked a K-9 dog and punched another one as they came for him. The dogs, Hurricane and Jordan are being treated for injuries.
CNN reports Brian Leary, a Secret Service spokesman as saying that Adesanya has been charged with two counts of felony assault on a police officer for attacking the K-9 dogs, four counts of resisting and unlawful entry, and one count of making threats.
Adesanya’s father told WMAR: “He had done it before. ... He didn't get that close. He didn't cross the fence. He was at the gate, fussing at the people, wanting to talk to the President to tell the President about his situation."
The father who said they've asked for help from the government without getting any, added: “It's hard to be in your house and not know if the person you're living with is trustworthy and to know they're mentally disturbed like he is," the father said.
Jumping the White House fence seems to have become so easy. On September 19, a man armed with a knife who police identified as Omar Gonzalez, scaled a fence and headed into the White House before he was apprehended.
