A trailer on Monday crashed into a primary school, Army Day School in Jikoko, Mpape, a suburb of Abuja, killing 10 pupils and injuring several others.
Leadership reports that the incident happened at about 9am when the children were in class.
A mother of three fainted when it was learnt that two of her children were among the dead, while the third, a six-year old girl, lost her fingers and had both legs broken. The unconscious girl was rushed to the Maitama General Hospital.
The newspaper reports an eye witness, Tosin Ayomide, as saying that the accident was so ghastly that the children, including the deceased ones, had to be dug out of the ground where they were rammed into.
The driver reportedly fled the scene of the accident.
