Pope Francis, a self-confessed football fanatic spent some time with the team at his residence on Wednesday morning. He praised the team’s performance admitting that he was surprised at the wide goal margin.
The team handed him a signed Bayern shirt and the club’s CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also presented the Holy Father with a ball symbolising a promise of a Bayern Munich friendly match.
Tweets on the Bayern twitter page later revealed that the friendly match would be used to donate €1million to a charity of the Pope’s choice.
