Online fraud stars popularly called "yahoo-yahoo boys" and all cyber criminals would get seven years imprisonment if convicted. That is according to a prescription made by the Senate on Thursday.
The decision followed a bill sponsored by Senator Adegbenga Kaka, tagged: “A Bill for an Act to Provide for the Prohibition, Prevention, Detection, Response, Investigation and Prosecution of Cybercrimes and for Other Related Matters 2014”.
The bill seeks to punish all kinds of computer-related fraud, cyber-stalking, cyber-stalking and offences relating to pornography through the net.
Offenders, according to the bill, will be sentenced to seven years in prison or a fine of N7 million or both.
The punishment also applies to those found guilty of possessing a manipulative device, unauthorised ATM cards, intention to defraud using a computer and trafficking in any password to swindle customers or financial institutions.
According to the bill, anyone who is aware of and refuses to report a cyber crime committed in his or her premises or cyber café will get three-year jail term or N2 million fine.
