According to Reuters, Alhaji Shettima Maina, head of the local government in Mafa district said: "The insurgents… grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region”

“Once they invade a community, they [the insurgents] abduct all boys aged 13 years and above and take them to their base. They also abduct all girls aged 11 years and above”.

Seventeen people were also reported killed in the attack.

“We buried the remains of the victims in Mafa on Friday” Maina said.

Just last week, the sect abducted 40 women in Waga Mangoro and 20 from Garta, both in Borno state.

Thursday’s attack is the third reported attack and abduction of women and children since reported negotiations between the federal government and Boko Haram began this month.

There were hopes initially that a truce had been reached and that the 219 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok in April would soon be released. It is now hard to reconcile that promise with the latest spate of abductions.
