Irate youths in Nasarawa on Sunday evening attacked three governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the palace of the paramount ruler of the Eggon people during a reconciliatory meeting called by the monarch the Aren Eggon, Bala Angbazo, to choose a consensus candidate to represent Eggon people at the primaries.
The aspirants included former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, Senator Solomon Ewuga and immediate past National President of the Eggon Cultural Association, Chris Mamman. They escaped unhurt but the youths who trooped to the palace in their hundreds, burnt down Mr. Mamman’s Toyota Corolla car.
Not done with him, he was later feared kidnapped at about 8.30pm from his house.
Mamman’s campaign Director, Nawan Aboki said Monday that the attack on his principal was orchestrated by his political opponents.
His words: “Our candidate was in Nasarawa Eggon as part of efforts by the Eggon Traditional Council to ensure that they are able to speak with one voice and have one candidate but as our candidate was approaching the palace, the mob came out and accosted him and manhandled him but was later rescued.
“All other candidates of Eggon extraction where there; Maku, and Ewuga but we don’t know who might have masterminded the attack among them.
He added “Even after he was rescued, we were told later in the day that some unknown people came and took him away and we don’t know who the person is and we are yet to make contact with him 12 hours after”
He said the police would be informed if he is not found by the end of the day (Monday).
