Pakistani teenager and Girl-child education rights activist, Malala Yousafzai,has won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize in an announcement that was made on Friday, Reuters reports.


Also winning the same award is Indian children's right advocate Kailash Satyarthi.

Malala, 17, was shot in the head by the Taliban two years ago for advocating girls' right to education. She survived the attack and has since then, stepped up her activism for girls’ right to education.

According to the website, Malala and Kailash won the prize"for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education". Malala is the youngest ever to win the prize

The $1.1 million worth prize will be presented in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, who in his 1895 will, created the award.
