2015: Buhari’s running mate according to Tinubu

Should Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) emerge the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who would be his running mate? Sources close to Vanguard have disclosed several names which are believed to be promoted by associates of the party’s leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The prospective running mates are:Prof. Yemi Osibajo, a former commissioner in Lagos State, Senator Ajayi Borofice presently representing Ondo North in the Senate and Mr. Wale Edun, a former commissioner in Lagos State.

Political differences with Asiwaju, it has been learnt, have removed two other choices from consideration. They are: the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and another former governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo.

The outright rejection of a Muslim-Muslim ticket has given the party headache in the choice of a running mate for Buhari or even Abubarkar Atiku, if he emerges. Prof Osibajo is particularly been touted more than the others owing to the fact that his candidacy may balance the feared Islamic religious tilt. Osibajo, who was commissioner for Justice when Tinubu was Lagos State governor, is also a senior pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
