A female staff of a new generation bank in Lagos, Opeyemi Opetuga, 35, allegedly withdrew the sum of N875, 000 from the account of a dead customer after forging his signature.

PM News reports that Opetuga, who was working at the Alausa branch of the bank, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Lagos State on a four count charge of felony to wit, stealing.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Ingobo Emby, told the court that the accused committed the offence between 23, 27 and 27 May, 2014. He said she had accomplices who are now at large.

The prosecutor said Opetuga forged the signature of the deceased, Ayinla Adeoba Awojobi, and withdrew the money from his account without his family’s approval. This, according to Emby, she did after she had reactivated the deceased’s account, removed his picture and replaced it with her brother’s picture.

The bubble burst when the bank carried out an audit of the branch. She was fired by the bank and reported to the police at the Bar Beach Division in Victoria Island.

Opetuga, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs I.O. Omotosho, adjourned the case till October 29, and ordered that the accused be kept in Kirikiri Prisons in Apapa, until she fulfilled her bail conditions.
