The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have initiated moves to appoint former Dutch coach, Ruud Gullit as Super Eagles coach, if an exclusive report by Africanfootball.com is anything to go by.
The online medium reports that in strict adherence to initial plan that a foreign coach would take over after Shuaibu Amodu executed the remaining two AFCON qualifiers against Congo and South Africa next month, the NFF had opened links with Gullit.
The report quoted a top NFF source as saying: “The Nigeria contacts in Europe are first to sound out Gullit whether he will be open to handle the Super Eagles and if he would be available.
“It will be only after this contact that other considerations like the duration of the contract and the personal terms of Gullit would be tabled.”
Gullit, 52, has once been in charge of Chelsea where he won the FA Cup with the team in 1997. He has also been in charge of and Newcastle United, Dutch side, Feyenoord as well as MLS side, Los Angeles Galaxy in the United States.
A former central midfielder for the Dutch national team, he made his
professional debut for Netherlands in 1981 when he was 19 and retired
from the side just before USA ‘94 World cup.
