Samsung Electronics has created a new Wi-Fi technology in which a 1GB downlaod can be made in just 3 seconds. It is based on the tech giant’s new 60 GHz WI-Fi technology which transfers data as fast as 575 MB per second.
Currently, the standard Wi-Fi technologies on ground are based between 2 GHz and 5 GHz, transferring data at the speed of 108MB per second.
This is what the technology entails is that a 1GB movie can be transferred between devices in less than three seconds. It would allow uncompressed high-definition videos to be streamed from mobile devices to Televisions in real-time without any delay.
The company said it achieved the feat by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network.
The company said the new standard will be a big part of its push into the automated SmartHome market.
Kim Chang Yong, Head of DMC R&D Center of Samsung Electronics said: “Samsung has successfully overcome the barriers to the commercialization of 60GHz millimeter-wave band Wi-Fi technology, and looks forward to commercializing this breakthrough technology”.
He added that the Korean tech giant plans to apply the technology to a wide range of products, including audiovisual, medical, and telecommunications equipment. “It will also be integral to development of Samsung's Smart Home initiatives related to the Internet of Things”.
The technology’s commercialization is expected to start early as next year.
