Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, has been appointed as new coach of Schalke 04 after the sacking of Jens Keller, the former coach.
Keller has had a disappointing start to the 2014/2015 Bundesliga season. After meeting with the club’s sporting director, Horst Heldt, on Monday he was subsequently relieved of his position.
A statement on the club’s official twitter feed reads: “Schalke have parted company with Jens Keller. Roberto Di Matteo takes over.”
Keller succeeded Huub Stevens at the club and signed a two-year extension in 2013.
Di Matteo won the 2012 Champions League with Chelsea, but has been without a job since November 2012.
