A potato root has been found growing inside the vagina of a 22-year-old Colombian woman. How did the offending vegetable find its way “inside the place?”

The young woman explained that she had been advised by her mother to insert a potato into her vagina as a means of contraception.

Her words: “My mom told me that if I didn’t want to get pregnant, I should put a potato up there, and I believed her,” she told Colombia Reports after the vegetable had been removed.

The discovery was made when she complained to doctors that she had abdominal pains during the week. She had left the potato in place for two weeks and began to experience intense pain in her lower abdomen. The potato had germinated and grown roots inside her.

The root vegetable was removed without surgery and doctors said there would be no lasting damage to her.

So, what manner of sex education exists in that country?

It was discovered recently by Bienestar Familiar, an organization that works to reduce the high levels of teenage pregnancy in Colombia, that most young people rejected conventional contraception methods.
