A man has been electrocuted while trying to steal some quantity of diesel from the generator house of a mast belonging to the telecommunications company, MTN, at St Paul Church in Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

The deceased was said to have sneaked into the generator house of the MTN mast and had almost made it out of the vicinity with the gallon of diesel when he was electrocuted by the live electric fence. He was burnt beyond recognition.

It was a surprise to residents of the area that the area that had lacked electricity supply for about two weeks had power restored just when the young man was about to do the evil deed.

Residents said he was notorious for vandalising electricity installations and acts of petty-robbery. According to them, the deceased had been stealing electrical equipment belonging to the PHCN and other companies for many years.

The Plateau State Police Command PPRO, Emmanuel Abu, who confirmed the incident stated that the deceased was not the only offender.

He said that there were actually three of them but when the first who who attempted to cut the wires was executed, the other two took to their heels.
