Reports said the man, simply identified as David and popularly called as DD, was buried alive in a nearby bush by angry youths of the community for allegedly being responsible for the death of one Celestine Offurum, who was killed in August.
He was believed to have Celestine through witchcraft.
Confirming the incident to DailyPost, President-General of the community, Napoleon Amadi opined that the youths had taken laws into their hands. He explained that “it was during the search for the whereabouts of the deceased by villagers and vigilante team that it was discovered that he had been buried in the bush.”
Amadi stated further that the police came and exhumed the body for autopsy after they were alerted of the discovery.
The traditional ruler of the community, Eze Bonny Umah expressed deep regret over the incident, lamenting that perpetuators of the act should have left the matter in the hands of the security agencies.
